Sleep: By Francine Chaderon; French Contemporary Artist |
My eyelids are heavy,
They're moist, they're glued.
A dream is surmounting
my tired conscience.
A caress, I need
some fingers through hair.
A kiss on my forehead,
some song from behind.
No questions on right,
no answers for wrong.
Put me to sleep,
Been awake for so long.
Just put me to sleep,
It's time for new dawn.
That dream has no sorrow
and nothing to lose.
Neither friends nor foes
only silence around...
No fears to bother,
No joy to chastise.
My dream has a peace
as pure as sunrise.
My wooden home
has no corners, no end;
Three feet below
and infinitely high
It rests away, Lord
from the world all alone!
Just put me to sleep
Free and Unknown..
Just put me to sleep

ReplyDeleteSubah subah uth ke aise poem padhne ko mile to koi sach me suicide kar lega.
Dawn may mean new life... may mean otherwise as well. :-)
DeleteI read just after I woke up, and hence the 'subah'.

yes, the debates are endless and tiring...
hiii tbes... its very well written... leaves much open to interpretation and i like that... it invites the reader to think and formulate his own point of view... i'm glad for the last line...
Thank you! Open ended interpretation was one of the themes on which this poem was written. Glad that it reached you.

these and some of the other lines could be my words... thanks for articulating them...
Thank you Rekha. Hope the essence and words reach others via you. And also hope nobody has to write a poem like this. Even if he has to write, he has some fingers through hair to put him to sleep, for a new dawn.
Deletei understand... sometimes one wishes someone wd look beneath the armour and the masks n see the real person behind...there is a very beautiful song in the movie hum dono.... if only each-and-everyone had one person in the world who wd care like that... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMzY9F0lOiw

These two lines also have some deeper meaning as I could not get it.
@Knight I will refrain from explaining what I felt when I wrote it but I am really interested in knowing how you interpret it.
Deletebhai pharuuuu :0)
ReplyDeleteThank you "Dark Shadows" :-)
DeleteQuite an emotional poem and it has so many layers in it. I love this part which resonates hope and comfort, 'Just put me to sleep,
ReplyDeleteIt's time for new dawn.'
